Maria Danneberg, Luciano Nania | Viola da Gamba

Originally moving to Vienna as a singer in 1658, the Italian musician Antonio Draghi (born 1634 in Rimini) will experience an incredible professional career at the imperial court. Within a few years he will become the most important musical figure there, as composer and Sopraintendente delle feste teatrali. By the time of his death in 1700, he will have composed more than 120 operas and numerous other vocal works, both secular and sacred.
Regrettably, the music of this extraordinarily prolific artist remains little known today. In our program, we present selected arias and scenes from
Sepolcri-oratorios by this master, framed by works by his colleagues at court as well as by his employer Leopold I himself.
